Drive-Thru Difference Day - November 7

Hey! This Friday it’s Drive-Thru Difference Day again!

This is another chance for the listeners of KTIS to do one big act of kindness across the Twin Cities.

Here’s what you need to do…

  1. Download and Print THIS PAGE (pdf)
  2. Go thru your favorite fast-food or coffee shop drive thru and place your order.
  3. When you get to the window to pay, offer to pay for the person behind you (they will have probably placed their order already).
  4. Leave the flyer to let them know what they have been a part of!
  5. Come back here and use the comments field of this post to tell us your story!

Still a bit confused?

We went out with KTIS artist Brandon Heath this past week. Allow him to demonstrate!

I have an interesting drive-through difference story:

A few months ago, a friend of mine had a cousin who was in a bad accident. There was one night where they called the whole extended family to the hospital to say good-bye, because the doctors didn’t feel as though the girl would make it through the night. One of my friend’s aunts rushed to the hospital with her 4 kids, first stopping at a McDonald’s on the way, and when she pulled up to pay for her order, she was told that the person in front of her had already covered it. I just thought that I would share this story, just to show that the drive-through difference really is changing lives in the twin cities.

On a side note, the cousin is alive and doing well, last I heard!

Hey, I seldom use a drive thru, I tend to walk, so do you have a similar note that can be used for that?

Thanks, Mike

I’ve only been listening to KTIS for about 2 months now. I had heard about the ‘pay it forward’ and thought how cool would it be to participate in that! So this morning, I managed to get out of the house early enough to stop at Caribou on my way into work. I cannot tell you how excited I was to see someone pull up behind me! I actually laughed at myself! It was finally “my turn” to pay for my coffee and I asked, “may I please pay for the person behind me.” The guy said “sure!” - added up the totals together and had the biggest smile on his face when he gave me my change and said, “I was waiting for someone to start this today!” I had the biggest smile as I pulled away and only seconds later, did I hear you mention the Drive-Thru Difference Friday. I had NO IDEA this was something that you had designated a day for! God is Amazing!

I saw Mike’s comments and thought the same thing about walking. So I modified the letter to say “Walk Through Difference” signed Stranger Behind You. The catch was that I folded the paper and told the person reading it that he could not open it until I had left the store.

He thought it was great! I think it made a difference for his day.

When Drive Thru Difference first started, I was skeptical that this was a way for others to “toot” about their own good works. I started today with no idea how God would use me for His glory. The day wrapped up with my little boy and I going through a drive through for supper. Knowing full well that this was a “Drive Thru” day for KTIS, but not having a flyer, I wondered if I would be bold enough to participate. The person behind me entered the drive thru line, frowning. As I watched her behind me, I felt sad for her. In side, a little voice reminded me that God wants KINDNESS more than - anything. I pulled to the window to pay and asked if I could pay for the woman behind me as well. I don’t know if she knew I was still watching her, but she was still frowning and probably wondering what was taking the car infront of her sooo long! As I pulled up to get our food, I thought I honked the horn. I apologized for the honk to the window attendant. As I checked the order to make sure it was correct I looked back to realize that the woman had gotten the word her food was paid for; it was her honking at me with a HUGE SMILE on her face. So TOOT for God, that all the Glory in this would be given to Him!!! He puts perfect situations in our lives to truly make a difference by allowing us to be His “Hands and Feet” to show the kindness He wants spread. He allowed the moment for A Random act of Kindness to sink in and warm a heart. Praise God for His wonderous works!!!!

Yesterday while at Mac Donalds in Lakeville about 12:30 pm I received a free lunch and this letter. I would love to thank the person ahead of me who paid for my lunch. I have never heard of this before but God Bless you for your kindness. I was having a bad day and you changed it for me. I plan to use this in the future to bless someone else.

I wanted to find a way to thank the person who did a pay it forward for me. I have colored my own hair for years but the last time I did, it was awful. Then to top it off I got a terrible haircut. I was really down about how I looked and was driving by the Coles in Eagan and felt that this is where I should go to see if they could fix my haircut at least. They just happened to have an appointment no show right then. Then while talking to the kind stylist she felt she needed to help me fix my color disaster. I did not know how I was going to afford this, but said go ahead. She did a great job, she got rid of the tiger look I had going and fixed the style. The best topper though was another customer had heard my story as I was talking to Tara and she paid for my whole bill. I never thought I would be the recipient of a pay it forward and God provided through this wonderful woman’s kindness. I don’t know who she is but I wanted to thank her for helping me and being part of God providing for our needs.

Paying forward does end up coming full circle. I try to participate every in every drive thru difference at NWA by going to the cafe, giving the cashier an amount of money and flyers to cover several peoples breakfast, coffee or whatever they have for their morning treat. Well today was no different. I walked up gave $20 and the flyers to LuAnn the cashier. She loves participating in this event. The joy she gets to be part of it is a reward in itself. As the people go up to pay for their breakfast, they get a flyer and indicate its already paid for. Smiles, looks of astonishment on their faces leaving the lady just infront of me speechless. She then indicated she also wanted to participate so she purchased my breakfast. So, I still had the money I was going to use for mine, and gave it to LuAnn with some more flyers, and said, continue to make people happy!! What an awesome feeling to lift up so many peoples spirits. God Bless!

I found the AND
All over in the bible we see where not only the need was cared for but the AND was applied. Like in Luke 10:34 bound his wounds AND put him on his donkey AND took him to the inn AND paid AND promised to come back
Jesus .. seek AND save forgive AND heal

I paid for a meal and added in a separate order some pies
A person I know needed help while he waited for his first check on a new job so I made his car payment and took him out to Hardies for lunch

Look for the AND

Another thing keep a gift card in your wallet with no intension of looking for a recipient.
Wait and God will show you who is in need of it. It’s an oh-wow experience. It’s not my choosing who to bless it’s God showing His love

Thank you for saying on air this morning that the purpose of the Drive Thru Difference is to do something “in Jesus’ name” (or however you worded it) in order to point people back to Him. My point is, lately I’ve been frustrated to here your promos claiming it to “nice, uplifting, being a good neighbor, the Minnesota way, etc.” I hope most of us realize by now that salvation comes from faith with good deeds, not by good deeds alone. It is only faith which saves. Remember what Matthew 7:21 says, “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” I just want to encourage everyone that being “encouraging” is the out pour of a life that is full with Christ-not the way to get full.

Thankful and joyful recipients of the drive thru difference at the NWA cafe gathered together to give a card to “the stranger in the car ahead” and addressed it to the “Mystery Breakfast Donor” and signed the card with thank you’s for breakfast and making their day. They handed it to the Cashier LuAnn and when I walked by she said I have something for you~ she handed me the card and indicated she had several others come up handed her money to do the same thing for others. I opened the card and read all the comments and signatures. It brings tears to my eyes knowing that it was appreciated and it was paid forward many times. God works so many miracles. We just have to be open and watch. Random acts of kindness from one leads to many random acts of kindness to many others. God Bless..

I was surprised and pleased to receive a free breakfast sandwich this morning on my way to work, paid for by a stranger: Jean. Thank you Jean, it was a very kind thing that you did and I know you are motivated by the better angels of your nature. May that motivation be alive in all of us as our country now embarks on a new mission to help the least of those around us. Let us always have eyes see the hurt and struggle of people and to be willing to make sacrifice to address that need.

Today while I stopped at Wendy’s in Burnsville for a late lunch at 3:00pm I received a free lunch and this letter. I would love to thank the person ahead of me who paid for my lunch. I had not heard ot this before and Iwill use in the future to pay it forward to someone else who could use a good thing happen to him. Upon receiving the letter, I immediately thought of the movie “pay it forward”, I love that movie and if every person in the world would do one thing for someone they dont know, imagine what we could accomplish! Again..thank you to the stranger I dont know!

I did the drive thru difference today for the first time. Wow! It felt really good to make a difference in someone’s life. I wasn’t the one receiving but it sure felt good to do something that showed kindness to someone I don’t even know. I just prayed a quick prayer for that person also as I was leaving and for the clerk who took my order. You just don’t know what kind of impression you are leaving on someone, good or bad!

I work at a Coffee shop. we have a salon next door and they come over with a little pile of cash for us to use on a couple customers each friday. Usually when this happens, we tell each car about the car in front of them, and it starts a chain reaction of several cars in a row, all paying for the car behind them. If they ask, I always tell them its KTIS promotion of the drive thru difference, letting people shine love into others lives with a purposeful act of kindness. It is SUCH an inspiration and Im SO glad you picked friday for it- when stresses are high and the week’s been long there is NOTHING like seeing the smiles of generosity coming through to share Gods love with others.

AWESOME! THANK YOU KTIS!
