Israel Follow-up from PK

Here are a few more pictures and some closing thoughts after my trip!

Israel - Olives
The Garden of Gethsemane - olive trees that are of the age of the time Jesus would have been praying in the garden.
Israel - Gate
The Eastern Gate of the Temple of Jerusalem through with Jesus will return in the Second Coming.
Israel - Museum
The entrance to the children’s museum at the Holocaust Museum - the pillars of different heights represent children of all ages who lost their lives and the rebar represents construction (young lives) that were never completed.

Israel - Schindler Tree

Israel - Corrie Tree
Trees have been planted as memorials at the Holocaust Museum - including for Oskar Schindler and Corrie Ten Boom.

Israel - Kutzlers and Moshe
Me with our guide Moshe and my husband Larry.

Now that I’ve been back in the U.S. a couple of days, I’m busy reflecting on what I saw and learned while I was there and it’s very difficult to explain in a brief way! I know that reading my Bible will be a very different experience as I can put places and culture to the words on the pages and it will be much more alive to me. I realized also that in my quest to read through the Bible in 2007 (more here and here) I was focusing more on staying with a dedicated schedule and was perhaps not reading as much as I need for actual content.

We discussed so many things pertaining to stories all through the Old Testament - some of which I had just read - and I couldn’t remember some of the basic facts. So….my word of encouragement to everyone trying to read through the Bible in 2007 is to not be driven by a set schedule if it means sacrificing having the scriptures sink into your head and your heart. Take your time, digest the words, and let the Lord speak to you through the process. I’m going to look through our 627 pictures and find my favorite pictures and pop them up on the blog in the next day or so. Thanks for reading along with me both on the blog and in your Bible, and as always, keep reading!!!

PK and group, a friend of mine went on this trip with you (JP Auer). He brought some pretty neat things bacj as gifts but the greatest gift was hearing that he was baptized in the Sea of Galilee. He was on fire yeterday when I talked to him about his trip. I am so thankful to God that he shared with me and I pray that the fire in him just spreads to all around….Praise God

Thanks for posting the pics, it’s neat to see photos of Israel. I’m very touched by what you wrote concerning reading the bible…how the goal MUST be to take the time that’s needed for the Word sink down deep into our hearts & spirits, and ’speak’ to us in a life-changing way…and how we ought not just ‘plow through it’. Isn’t it so wonderful how the Lord gives us His wisdom and understanding when we give Him the time??? `:)

I never have seen olive trees before. It is neat to see them where Jesus prayed for me.
